Cemetery Workday

June 24, 2023

9:00 am – 12:00 pm

17 Available

Work alongside other community members to improve and protect this historic cemetery.

Meeting Place:

Intersection of Terrace Way and Franklin Avenue in Santa Rosa

The County of Sonoma maintains a cemetery located just behind the City of Santa Rosa’s rural cemetery. Founded in 1967, the cemetery was established to bury John and Jane Does and the County’s poorer residents. More than 150 people are now buried there, with the most recent burial taking place in 2020. Volunteers will work to reestablish a small gravel road and tend to the landscaping. Tools, supplies, and gloves will be provided by Regional Parks along with coffee, snacks and drinks. We’ll meet at the corner of Terrace Way and Franklin Avenue in Santa Rosa. For more information, contact John Ryan at communityengagementprograms@sonoma-county.org. Registration required.

We recommend participants dress in layers, wear comfortable, closed toed hiking shoes and bring a hat and sunscreen. Most programs will happen rain or shine, but may be canceled during heavy rains, heavy smoke, or extreme temperatures. Accommodations will be made for visitors with disabilities upon advance request.
